Alfredo Toledo Rodríguez

My name is Alfredo David Toledo Rodríguez. I am 21 years old and in my fourth year of college, studying for Secondary English Teacher. I like to think of myself as outgoing, dedicated, and open-minded. I get across to people and adjust to changes with ease. I believe that a person should work on developing their professional skills and learning new things all the time. I am dedicating myself to my studies and looking for new ways to keep growing my academics. I am ready to continue pursuing my studies in International Education in Washington, D.C.

My Story

When I finished 12th grade in high school, I did not know what I wanted to study. By then, I had offered myself to be a teacher to kids from 9 to 12 years old in my church. I started giving them classes Sunday after Sunday and fell in love with teaching. The way I interacted with kids, the fun we had, their faces when they learned new material and the way they wanted to keep learning made me stop and think of what I wanted to be in the future. Thanks to that, I have correctly chosen what I am studying for my future.

When I started the teacher preparation program in college, I was amazed at the depths of what it was to teach. I started learning about its history, how it became one of the most fundamental works for humanity, the importance of a teacher in a kid's life, and so many more aspects. Not only this but also the warmth of the faculty of the English Department and their care for our mental health and its aspirations for us to be who we are and be proud of it made me realize who I am. Now, I have a better view of what I want to achieve in life, and I am pleased to say that I am studying to be a teacher, and that's what I want to do in life: teach.
